Conlan School : Spotlight on the Centre Manager
Conlan School provides a variety of work and career opportunities. Today we are focusing on the Centre Manager and in particular Jeff Warren Centre Manager at Abergele Centre.
Jeff was previously employed as a Regional Manager in an established North Wales Food Retail Company and was responsible for over 600 staff. It was here that his contact with logistics and people began and who better to explain the role of a Centre Manager than Jeff who currently occupies the role?
What brought you to Conlan?
After leaving food retail I joined a Company involved in the work experience programme as an Operations Manager. When the opportunity arose to join a more local company the decision was easy as I enjoy working with young people and am passionate about youth unemployment and personal development.
What does a Centre Manager do?
After the Group is booked it is my responsibility to contact the client and work with them until arrival in the UK. This involves confirming numbers and dietary requirements and organising arrival and transfer logistics and Host Family and Group Leader accommodation selection and confirmation. I inform and introduce the Director of Studies so that the programme is designed to the client`s wishes and confirm all information a minimum of 2 weeks before arrival by email.
What happens next?
The Group is met on arrival by a Conlan Representative, the students are transferred to the Host families and the Group Leaders are driven to their accommodation. I then ensure all the students receive a comprehensive Health and Safety Induction on their first day, confirm their social requirements and set up a robust communication process with the Group Leaders throughout their stay until their day of departure.
How do you ensure the Client is satisfied?
All students and Group Leaders complete an evaluation so that we can identify any opportunities and celebrate the successes. There is also an interim evaluation for programmes of more than 1 week duration. Our overall satisfaction scores are over 80% with many clients visiting us again and again. To me that is the true measure of success!!

Chester Wine Festival
“Accept what life offers you and try to drink from every cup. All wines should be tasted; some should only be sipped, but with others, drink the whole bottle.”? Paulo Coelho
Chester is a very cultural city. This month, March 20-23 it hosts the Chester Wine Festival .
During the Festival, private VIP tastings will be on offer, workshops, corporate events, group tastings, and plenty of entertainment historical tours around the civil war areas of the city.
The costumed guides will vividly recreate the desperate drama of the time - and the effect the conflict had in and around the city for Cestrians, King and Country.
The Chester Civil War pub tour It's a fascinating tour of the ancient hostelries within the City walls, all of which were frequented by both Royalist Cavaliers and Roundhead Parliamentary forces.
