Wales named one of the best places on the planet to visit by one of the world's biggest guide books, Lonely Planet
Wales is the only area of the UK to feature on the Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2017 list. Food, thrills and stunning scenery were just some of the reasons that earned it the accolade. The guide specifically named North Wales among its top regions on the planet to visit. It beat fierce competition, including the deserts of South Australia and the snow-capped mountains of Aysén in Chile, to come fourth on the prestigious list.

The Lonely Planet team were impressed with the way North Wales has reinvented itself as an “adventure playground” in recent years. Editorial Director Tom Hall said: “We included North Wales in this year’s list of top ten regions because it deserves to be recognised on the global stage. It’s a stunning area with a vast array of activities on offer to keep travellers entertained….North Wales is a gem and should be on every traveller’s radar.”

Merry Christmas
December marks the end of 2016 for Conlan School. We have had a fantastic year, with over 60 different groups of many nationalities coming to either Chester or Abergele on various courses.
In Chester, we look forward to seeing a number of our Work Experience students coming back to the city to stay with their host families for New Year celebrations, and to take in some more of the wonderful attractions that the North West and Wales has to offer over the holiday period.
As a school, we would like to thank our staff, our host families and everyone involved in creating and implementing our specialist programmes for the students. Finally, we would of course lie to thank our incredible students for coming to Chester and Abergele in 2016. It has been a pleasure having them all come to Conlan School and we look forward to more and more students in 2017.
A very merry Christmas and a happy New Year from all at Conlan School!

Continued Collaboration with Llandrillo College
Students from Italy training to become chefs recently visited the catering department of Llandrillo College for a cookery session. The 15 students learnt how to make Welsh Oggies (a kind of pasty) and Welsh Cakes (a sweet cake eaten with “afternoon tea” containing spices and raisins). The session was led by lecturer Mike Evans (on the left of the picture) and culminated in the group eating what they had cooked! The following day, the students started their 1 month work experience in local cafés, restaurant and hotels. Thanks to Mike for another memorable afternoon.
